Surf, Sand And Soccer In Santa Cruz!
San Ramon FC's 04G Navy teams earned 1st AND 2nd place at the Pro-AM Beach Tournament earlier this month.
The 04G Navy team recently competed in the Santa Cruz Pro-AM Beach Soccer Tournament, dividing into 2 teams - Riptide and Sandstorm - for the weekend competition.
Both teams played well and met in the finals!
Coached by Jovan Yamagishi, the 04G Navy teams adjusted to playing in the sand and the slightly different rules, advancing out of their respective 4 team brackets to meet in the championship.
Here are a few differences between beach soccer and "normal" soccer:
1. Played on the beach.
2. Teams play 5v5.
3. Games played on a small court.
4. Different rules - On free kicks, players have to open up a path to the goal and after the ball is touched, players can enter the path to goal to block or intercept shots.
5. Players use beach specific "soccer socks" instead of cleats.
6. Playing barefoot is okay too.
Congratulations to the players and Coach Yamagishi on a fun, successful soccer weekend!
